There's an even greater threat, warned the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)--a Zombie Apocalypse! When the horrifying brain-eater invasion was (jestingly) forecast a few years ago, folks were advised to create zombie emergency preparedness kits.

This Halloween 2014, intrepid zombie warriors have discovered a new weapon for their arsenal against the undead: paintball guns. Zombie paintball is this Halloween's hottest (well, coldest, as in cold and dead) activity. What is zombie paintball? It's a LARP--live action role-play--survival game. People dress as zombies so others can practice their tracking skills. Paintball splats seem to stick to zombies and make them more visible.

Zombie hunters got in some paintball practice at West Michigan's Wurst Fest a few weeks ago, reported Fox 17. But the main event will, of course, be Halloween. All Hallow's Eve is the high point of the zombie (and things ghoulish) year. Zombies logically target Halloween for their Armageddon.

Worried that your zombie survival skills might not be up to par? Maybe you should try your hand at zombie paintball? Here's a list of places that offer zombie paintball. Click on your state to find events near you.

But beware--zombie preparedness doesn't come cheap. In Michigan, zombie hunts takes place atDarksyde Acres (Jonesville). For $5 you get to take 20 shots at the ghouls or $20 gets you 100 shots. Fear the Farm in Battle Creek, is the closest haunted venue to Grand Rapids with zombie hunting. Costs there are 75 shots for $20 and 150 for $30.

"Little House in the Big Woods" when Laura is five and was written
over a period from 1932-1943. But going in chronological order "Farmer

"The Long Winter", "Little Town on the Prairie" and
"These Happy Golden Years." "The First Four Years" (stories
from Laura's early married life). didn't come out till 1971 and I clearly

The
publication of these books sparked renewed interest in early American history

I was near Laura's age in the story. Laura Ingalls Wilder had a gift for
story-telling to match her fascinating life. I purchased the rest of the series,
one by one and read them. I later read the Little House on the Prairie books to
my own children and used them in our homeschool. The Little House books make

between American pioneers and settlers. Pioneers were trail blazers who built
new towns and settlements. Settlers moved into these areas and settled them.
Laura Ingalls Wilder's family, both the her parents Charles and Caroline
Ingalls and her husband Almanzo Wilder were settlers and pioneers. They brought
customs and traditions with them from the New England towns they lived in and
they formed many new traditions based on the areas they settled.

Do they tend to get a little greedy and entitled around the
holidays? Here are 25 jobs for children to help in Thanksgiving preparations.
Good parenting means putting <span style="color: #4489e3; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">kids to work helping at
Thanksgiving, not just letting them sit around, watch TV and get waited on.
Perks are that children learn unselfishness, community spirit and satisfaction
of a job well done. And the whole family gets memory making and bonding time.
Good parenting also means making each child feel important. Each task has a job
title (kids love job titles--it makes them feel like valued contributors not
just idle spectators.) Kids can double up on jobs as some are done at different
times.
During the Devil's Night weekend, including Halloween, revelers light bonfires and endanger other residents. But this year, Detroit marked a milestone for safety. WXYZ reported on Nov. 1, that the City of Detroit had its quietest Devil's Night ever and recorded far fewer fires thanks to Angels' Night. Detroit set a three-day record low for bonfires city-wide. What is Angels' Night? It's what happens when a vibrant, proactive city works together for the common good. Detroit residents were tired of living fear of wildfires on Halloween, so they organized Angels' Night brigades. And this new tradition paid off: the city recorded only 52 fires over three nights in 2015. That's 97 fires less than in 2014 and a whopping 758 fires less than the worst Devil's Night in 1984.Detroit had its quietest Devil's Night ever, fewer fires thanks to Angels' Night | Examiner.com

They almost outrank scary and sexy costumes--two of the best-selling categories. From a simple dress-up, Halloween has morphed into an adult event to make statements, press an agenda and mock others. This year the tackiest Halloween costume has several competitors. First is the "Call Me Caitlyn" costume of Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner). Then there's a Cecil the Lion killer Halloween costume. Will a Walter Palmer costume--with blood-spattered dentist uniform and stuffed lion head--win 2015's tackiest? It's a close call.Cecil the Lion killer Halloween costume: Walter Palmer costume 2015's tackiest? | Examiner.com

Making holiday gingerbread houses
is a favorite family traditions. Not being very artistic, I'd cheat and get the
gingerbread house kit. But I've found a better way: free printable gingerbread
house patterns, recipes and templates. Now, people approach gingerbread house
making in one of two ways. The first is by painstakingly designing a work of
art--not to be eaten, let alone touched. Then there's our youngest son's
method: slap together a ramshackle gingerbread shed, lather in two inches of
frosting, cover every inch in candy and devour immediately. Whichever school
you subscribe to, you'll want these free printable gingerbread recipes,
templates and patterns.
Ultimate Gingerbread is dedicated

Or maybe you're throwing Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) shindig and need calavera (skull) cookies. Now you could do the (kind of boring and overdone) sugar cookies shaped like skulls. There are some hilarious Pinterest Skeleton fail cookie images to illustrate how not to do it! And let that be a lesson, too, that complicated isn't always better. Sometimes, you can improvise, like I did and make something better. Maybe you don't believe in all the spooky associations with the celebration? Maybe you want a more Bible based family activity? Well, you need look no further. The Catholic holy day of All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1 and November 2 is All Souls Day. Actually, All Hallows Eve (Hallowe'en) was a pagan lollapalooza that preceded the holy day. You could do All Saints themed activities to replace Halloween activities you're uncomfortable with. When our children were young, would dress as saints, go to mass and host All Saints Eve parties afterwards. Free Printable Catholic Saints and Christian Bible Coloring Pages for your All Saints Day festivities.
